UConn Scores Big Win In-State for Class of 2016

Southington (CT) quarterback Jay Rose announced his commitment to the UConn Huskies today in a press conference at his high school. UConn Report has spoken with Rose multiple times in the months leading up to his commitment.

Rose held offers from all over the country, including Boston College, Maryland, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, NC State and West Virginia, but his final decision came down to Syracuse and UConn- two schools who were willing to let him try his hand at quarterback.
"Offensively they (UConn) like the traditional pro-style offense, but they talked about bringing some new formations and strategies into play, and I liked what I heard," Rose said in his first conversation with UConn Report in June.
Rose visited UConn earlier in the summer, where he met with the coaches and checked out a team workout.
"I was impressed with how hard they work out and the intensity of what they do," he said.
The reasons Rose chose UConn include: the facilities, head coach Bob Diaco and the staff, academic opportunities, and the chance to be a part of bringing his hometown team back to prominence.
Rose is a proven winner and leader. His Southington Blue Knights are coming off two straight Class LL State Championships and rearing for a third after a preseason No. 1 ranking and blowout win over Manchester in last week's season opener.
The well-built 6-foot-3 prospect threw six touchdowns in that game, despite sitting most of the second half. Even though Rose has made his college decision, he is looking forward to proving his doubters wrong with a stellar performance as a passer this season. The Blue Knights' next game is Friday at home against Hartford Public.
"I thank Jay everyday because I have a quarterback like that," Rose's teammate Alessio Diana told the Meriden Record-Journal after their season opener. "Because just to have his accuracy, he's always consistent, and his throwing power - he knows how to put the ball on the spot."
Though only two are expected to line up under center, UConn has five total players in its class of eight who play quarterback. This is a great sign for the intelligence and leadership that will be coming onboard along with top-quality talent in this recruiting class.
