American Athletic Conference Football Recruiting Round Up

With just over two weeks until National Signing Day, and UConn Football in a bit of a holding pattern, let's take a look at how some of the other teams in the conference are doing on the recruiting trail.

Right now Houston, coming off a Peach Bowl victory to finish a 13-1 season, is the undisputed leader in the conference. With the only five-star recruit in the American (DT Ed Oliver) and more four-star commits (3) than the rest of the conference (2 - both at South Florida), Tom Herman's staff has also reeled in the most three-star recruits (10) in the conference.

By the Rivals rating system, Houston's class of 20 players has 636 more points than second-place SMU and is ranked 28th in the country. There are 550 points between SMU and last-place Tulane.

Despite being rated as the second-best class overall, SMU's average rating is the lowest in the conference. With 24 commitments so far, the Mustangs' class rating is bolstered by quantity.

The second-highest average rating belongs to South Florida, who has seven three-star recruits and the only other four-stars besides Houston. Willie Taggart's staff had a big weekend, adding three players including four-star defensive back Craig Watts.

By overall rating, UConn is 11th out of 12, but by average rating, it comes in at sixth- just ahead of Temple.
