UConn Offers Two 2016 Prospects, Could Be Player in Transfer Market Again

The Huskies made scholarship offers to two unsigned 2016 recruits from Brewster Academy in New Hampshire this week. Both Taurean Thompson, a power forward, and Alpha Diallo, a four-star wing, received offers after assistant coach Glen Miller made a visit earlier in the week.

With Sam Cassell Jr. leaving the program and the potential of another roster spot opening up with Daniel Hamilton testing the NBA waters, the offer to Diallo seems to make perfect sense. Diallo is a 6-7 small forward with offers from Florida, Indiana, and Miami (FL) to name just a few. He is the 94th ranked player in the ESPN 100 and rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.

Diallo appears to have a skill set similar to Hamilton’s though perhaps less potential to be an immediate contributor. That isn't a problem because there's a good chance Hamilton returns and the Huskies also have Terry Larrier eligible to play after transferring from VCU.

At 6-9, 220—Thompson would give UConn a much-needed boost in the front court with the graduations of Phil Nolan, Shonn Miller and the possible departure of Amida Brimah. Thompson is the 84th-ranked prospect in the country and appears to have good footwork and finishing ability in the lane. He might not make an immediate impact, but given time for his frame fill out Thompson could be a very nice addition to go along side of Steven Enoch. He currently holds offers from Syracuse, NC State, SMU and Temple among others.

Additionally, this past week has seen a slew of players announcing their intentions to transfer. So far only one has been linked to UConn, but with two open scholarships, maybe more, the Huskies will likely be a factor once again this offseason in the transfer market.

Katin Reinhardt was a top-40 prospect in the class of 2012 out of Mater Dei High in California.
