UConn Basketball Commit Zach Brown No Longer Enrolled at Putnam Science

After days of speculation surrounding a supposedly planned trip to Florida, Zach Brown is no longer enrolled at Putnam Science Academy and will not be back this academic year. The class of 2017 center, who verbally committed to the Huskies last month right before transferring to PSA, will be sorting out issues back home.

The saga started after it was revealed that Brown was no longer in Connecticut, shortly after getting into a bit of a skirmish at a game last week. The Hartford Courant is reporting that the altercation was with opposing players, but Putnam Science Academy has a zero-tolerance policy on fighting.

According to the New Haven Register's David Borges, this trip to Florida was actually planned but with PSA's head coach Tom Espinosa offering little or no comment at the time, it seemed unlikely that everything was A-ok. Per a statement from Espinosa today, Brown was asked to leave the school. The door may still be open for Brown to come back to PSA next year, however.

Now that he is no longer enrolled at PSA, Brown's status with UConn, or any school for that matter, is in question. Anyone can reasonably infer that Brown's transfer to Putnam Science was at the behest of UConn, given that it was announced about two weeks after his verbal commitment to the Huskies. The fact that he will be attending his fourth school in less than two years is not going to bode well, even though he is reportedly a good student.

UConn Report has been told that there are people in Brown's camp associated with his AAU team, which is owned by his legal guardian Michael Lipman, who are considered to be problematic. This has been the reason for Brown transferring schools down in Miami before coming to Connecticut, and also caused colleges to back off their interest.

We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops, with updates across the day on our message board. Brown could very well end up back at his previous school, Miami High, for this year.
